Commercial Christmas Lighting Projects

Commercial Christmas Lighting Ideas: 5 Real-World Displays Around the World

Every Christmas, familiar public spaces take on a different look. A giant Christmas tree becomes a city landmark, overhead lights transform a busy shopping street, and illuminated trails bring gardens to life after dark.

From large-scale displays at shopping centres to festive streets and outdoor light trails, these projects show how Christmas lighting can change the atmosphere of a place and give visitors something memorable to experience.

Here are five real-world projects from the UK, the United States and HOYECHI’s own installation portfolio, featuring ideas for commercial Christmas decorations, giant Christmas trees and outdoor lighting displays.

PROJECT 01 · UNITED KINGDOM

Trafford Centre: A Christmas Wonderland Inside a Shopping Mall

For its 2025 Christmas display, Manchester’s Trafford Centre featured an impressive mix of suspended decorations, oversized festive props and illuminated structures. The installation by Blachère Illumination UK included a glowing red Santa’s sleigh with reindeer, a 15-metre illuminated chandelier, a conical Christmas tree, a walk-through gift parcel and a custom-lit arch bearing the shopping centre’s branding.

The suspended sleigh and reindeer draw visitors’ eyes upwards, while the oversized gift parcel gives them a place to step inside and take photos. The illuminated arch frames the display, tying the different elements together within the mall’s interior.

This combination of hanging decorations and ground-level installations works particularly well in large shopping centres with spacious atriums. Giant gift boxes, illuminated arches and 3D Christmas figures can also create an inviting festive entrance outdoors.

PROJECT 02 · LONDON, UK

Regent Street: Turning a Shopping Street into a Christmas Landmark

London’s Regent Street is famous for its annual Christmas lights. In 2025, the Spirit of Christmas display featured more than 30 illuminated figures stretching across Regent Street and nearby areas, including St James’s Market, Glasshouse Street, Swallow Street and Quadrant Arcade.

The glowing figures form a canopy above the streets, creating a distinctive festive scene against London’s historic architecture. As shoppers move between stores, restaurants and surrounding streets, the decorations remain part of the experience throughout their visit.

For commercial streets and city centres, overhead lighting can make a strong visual impression without taking up valuable space at ground level. Coordinated street motifs and illuminated arches can extend the same theme across shopping districts, pedestrian zones and public areas.

PROJECT 03 · LONDON, UK

Kew Gardens: A Christmas Light Trail Through the Gardens

Each winter, Christmas at Kew transforms London’s Royal Botanic Gardens into an illuminated evening attraction. The 2025 edition featured a route of around 3 kilometres, with new light installations, illuminated trees and projections across the gardens.

One of the highlights was a display of 100 illuminated lilies on Palm House Pond. Visitors could also enjoy projections above the Museum No. 1 building and a spectacular light show at the Temperate House.

The experience unfolds as visitors walk through the gardens, with each section offering a different view. Reflections on the water, illuminated plants and trees, and large-scale installations create a varied landscape throughout the route.

Similar ideas can work well in public parks, resorts and theme parks. A light tunnel can mark the beginning of a trail, while 3D animal sculptures, illuminated trees and themed displays can create points of interest along the way. A giant Christmas tree can anchor a larger display area.

PROJECT 04 · NEW YORK, USA

Rockefeller Center: A Giant Christmas Tree at the Heart of the City

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is one of the best-known holiday displays in the world. In 2025, the Norway spruce stood approximately 23 metres tall and featured more than 50,000 multicoloured LED lights. A Swarovski star weighing around 408 kilograms topped the tree.

Set against the surrounding buildings and the famous ice rink, the illuminated tree creates a striking focal point in the middle of Manhattan. Its scale, dense lighting and distinctive star make it instantly recognisable during the Christmas season.

Giant Christmas trees can bring a similar sense of occasion to shopping malls, hotel entrances, city squares and outdoor events. Traditional tree designs suit classic festive themes, while metal-frame structures with LED lighting offer more flexibility for large-scale installations. Oversized baubles, gift boxes and other illuminated decorations can complete the surrounding scene.

PROJECT 05 · UZBEKISTAN

HOYECHI’s 35-Metre Christmas Tree Project in Uzbekistan

Large Christmas tree installations bring their own set of challenges, from transporting structural sections to assembling the frame and completing the lighting system on site.

HOYECHI’s project portfolio includes a 35-metre giant Christmas tree installation in Uzbekistan. The published project material shows the frame, decorative sections and installation equipment, along with footage of the assembly process and a DMX512 music-synchronised lighting display.

Projects at this scale require careful coordination between the tree design, structural layout, decorative finish and lighting controls. The available site space, viewing distance, transport arrangements and installation schedule all influence the final configuration.

HOYECHI develops commercial Christmas trees in customised sizes and styles for shopping centres, city squares, parks and other large venues. Options include illuminated decorations, programmable lighting effects and matching festive displays.

Finding the Right Christmas Lighting Style for Your Venue

These five projects illustrate how different lighting designs can shape different spaces. Suspended decorations and oversized gift boxes bring festive character to shopping centres. Overhead motifs create a continuous display along commercial streets. Light trails combine illuminated sculptures, tunnels and themed installations across outdoor venues, while a giant Christmas tree can become the centrepiece of a city square or shopping complex.

For commercial Christmas displays, the best combination depends on the venue, available space, decoration theme and project scale. Giant Christmas trees, 3D Christmas light sculptures, walk-through arches and illuminated tunnels can be used individually or combined to create a coordinated display.

HOYECHI supplies commercial Christmas trees, outdoor light sculptures, illuminated arches, light tunnels and customised festive decorations for shopping centres, commercial streets, hotels, parks and public spaces.

If you are planning a Christmas lighting project for the coming season, share your venue photos, available dimensions, preferred theme and installation date with our team to discuss suitable products and a customised display.
